Different Types Of Pulse Flow Meters For Water Resources
Pulse flow meters come with an attached magnet, usually on a dial or drum inside the meter. While it’s not all, some let you choose the type of dial you prefer to use for the pulse output. That’s what determines the volume of water represented by the pulse.
Before we proceed, let’s help you understand our topic better by defining these words that may be new to some people.
What Is Pulse Output?
A pulse output in water meters is a simple single-pole, single-throw (SPST) dry contact reed switch. While the switch stays open, it closes when a magnet pulls the reed to a secure place. The magnet stays on a dial or drum that rotates as the water flows.
Once the magnet moves far away, the reed gets released, and the switch opens. Regardless of how long the switch stays closed, the closure and opening of the switch is a single pulse.
Types of Pulse Flow Meter Products
We’ll check some pulse flow meter products, using pulse signals to recover flow measurement data. There are several reasons why a client would like to read the meter’s data away from its position. And one is installing the meter in a hard-to-access area, which can be inconvenient. That’s when a pulse water meter is the best option, which can report data to a convenient place. And for clients to read the data from these meters, they need pairing with a remote meter reading system.
Mechanical Water Meters with Pulse Output
There are two different pulse output switches for Assured Automation’s mechanical water meters. But when purchasing any meter, you only get the correct switch type. That means you don’t even have to know much about selecting the proper type. While configuring your pulse flow meter, check the “Include a Pulse Output” checkbox.
Residential Water Meter No Lead
These water meters are No Lead cold water, and they come with an integral filter/measuring chamber. The register is watertight and is removable. It also includes a tempered glass lens for protection and a hinged plastic cover.
The WM Series residential water meters are inline, multi-jet (inferential), and impeller. They meet the ANSI 61 Annex G Lead-Free measures.
Features
-
- These designs are proven Multi-Jet Water Meter
- They are hermetically sealed dry dial (won’t fade)
- Tempered glass lens
- Magnetic drive
- Low flow indicator
- Readable register display
- Integral Strainer in Measuring Chamber
- Hinged plastic lens cover
Multi-jet Hot and Cold-Water Meter (3/4″ Economy Series)
Due to the high-grade polymer used in this meter, the multi-jet is lightweight, durable, and economical. And this ¾” NPT meter uses the multi-jet principle of measurement. Additionally, it can work for several applications due to the vertical or horizontal possible installation.
This meter can measure to the nearest hundredth of a gallon through a simple read register. Its accuracy is +/- 1.5%. It includes a Leak detector that alerts whenever a small flow passes through the meter. It comes with a complete pulse output set for 1-pulse for every 10 gallons. This pulse flow meter helps read the measurement data from a place other than where the meter is.
Wastewater Flow Meter – WWM Series
So, this paddlewheel flow meter consists of a pipe adapter and paddlewheel sensor components. And the paddlewheel sensor can get into any of the adapters. It spins at a linearly proportional rate due to the liquid flowing in the pipe. Then the Magnets in the paddle rotate past a switch.
A microprocessor operates the pulses from the switch and then displays this as a flow rate on the LCD. The PT can work as a pool water meter, septic effluent, and gray water applications. In addition, using the remote mount display can be a perfect solution for meters installed in a pit.
Polymer Water Meter – MTW-PD Series
Whether you’re peeking for a residential water meter, this meter is your answer. It comes in 5/8 x 3/4″ connections and includes a polymer body. That’s why it’s at an economical price point.
- The polymer meter uses a positive displacement method of measurement.
- It keeps its accuracy at +/- 1.5% in any installation orientation-horizontal or vertical.
- It’s TEP approved and Pit Rated and complies with NSF/ANSI standard 61.
When you purchase this meter, you get a 1-year warranty for the new meter’s accuracy and a 5-year standard for the body accuracy (AWWA C710) and register. Also, the glass lens is ideal as it resists scratches.
Conclusion
With that knowledge, you should have no trouble selecting a pulse flow meter. You have a lot of options whether you need a home or a business meter. These meters are useful for those who like to read the data from a location other than the meters. In water meters, a pulse output is a simple single-pole, single-throw (SPST) dry contact reed switch. The switch remains open until a magnet pulls the reed into a secure position, at which point it closes.
