5 Reasons Why Summer Camp is the Best Way to Spend Your Summer
There are many ways to spend your summer, but nothing beats the experience of spending it at summer camp! Whether you want to make new friends, challenge yourself physically, or spend time with friends and family, you can find something to do at summer camp. With so many opportunities on top of affordable prices, there’s no reason not to sign up for summer camp! Here are five reasons why summer camp is the best way to spend your summer.
1) You Learn New Skills
One of your summer goals is probably some kind of skill-building (Swimming, reading, cooking). That’s not an accident. Summer is a great time for trying something new and challenging yourself. There’s no better way to do that than through summer camp. You’ll push yourself beyond your comfort zone and build confidence in new areas of your life. And when you take on these challenges, you’ll be prepared for what college has in store for you too!
2) You Become a Better Leader
As you make your way through summer camp, you learn to lead. It’s not a formal leadership role – nobody hands you a badge or vest with a star on it and says, here, be a leader. But you know what? You don’t need that kind of external motivation. When you’re responsible for leading your group on an overnight hike up an active volcano (which happened in our case), all it takes is that first step out of camp at daybreak and down into the darkness of some foreign jungle to know: I’m in charge now. And when everyone’s lives are counting on you getting everyone back safely, knowing is not just believing; it’s doing. There may be no more effective leadership training anywhere else.
3) You Gain Confidence
There’s no better way to test yourself and gain self-confidence than summer camp. Whether you’re facing a new adventure like waterskiing, scuba diving or backpacking or trying something that takes place every day, like swimming lessons or baseball practice, you’ll face your fears and learn how to conquer them. When camp ends, you will feel stronger and more empowered as an individual. You also have a support system from counselors who you can rely on for advice when things get tough in life.
4) You Make New Friends
While camp counselors and other kids at summer camp in Syosset may not be your age, they’re a great way to meet new people. And what better time of year to make friends than when you’re away from school and work? Summer camp is full of chances for new friendships; don’t pass them up!
5) You Build a Community
When you spend a summer at camp, you are surrounded by people who want nothing more than for you to succeed. These people become your friends, family and support system. Spending time with them during one of the most formative times in your life will help build relationships that can last a lifetime. If anything ever goes wrong in life, it’s comforting to know that someone has got your back — and if you’re lucky enough to have spent time with a group of great people, they just might be those friends.
